Building a more compassionate society together
At the end of 2017, the value of compassion was included in our business group, Keralty. This value drives us to be caring, to recognize another person's feelings, to place ourselves in another's shoes, to be comprehensive, to be generous, and to help soothe other's pain.
At Keralty Colombia, we work daily to place ourselves in another's shoes, as well as to understand from their perspective what they feel and may need from us in order to feel better. Since October 2017, we started different campaigns, which allowed us to raise awareness towards the pain of those who accompany us on a daily basis by means of activities held in our locations. We then invited those who are part of Keralty to feel what others feel and to reflect upon a question: What would you do to take care of him or her? In other words, contemplate upon what we do to take care of those around us, not only our patients, but also our coworkers, our family members, neighbors, and all the people who are part of our environment.
With the aim of raising awareness and getting each one of us to internalize our worth, we held informative sessions internalizing with our bosses, whom afterwards made posters along with arts and crafts, which mentioned what compassion meant to them. Moreover, we held a nation-wide campaign where we reinforced our organizational values and invited all of our employees to participate in a contest. The participants' knowledge about values and ways to apply these on a daily basis were put to the test.
In order to extend our new value on top of adding to the transformation of more compassionate cities, our foundation in Colombia led the awareness-raising and formation program called: With you, Bogota (Bogotá Contigo). This program fosters social movements, which invites citizens to create compassionate communities, where help is provided to others so they may live better with a terminal illness and during their final stage of life, with special care and accompaniment, which complements the palliative care.
In 2018, Keralty Colombia will continue to be committed to building a compassionate society and we will do so starting from within each one of us, from our hearts and our sense of humanity. We appeal to these feelings every time we see someone in our environment who needs to be heard, someone to connect with their pain, and to help them from our feelings of humility and empathy.
We shall continue to build humane companies, which not only provide health care services, but also go above and beyond to leave a mark in hearts, and in the lives of those who turn to them.
